Each year an estimated 2.7 million babies die during the first 28 days of life and over a million children survive with impairment following neonatal conditions.  The main causes of neonatal death are complications of prematurity (36%), infections (23%), and intrapartum complications (23%). Many of these deaths are preventable.

Haiti Spinal Cord Injury Working Group

Haiti Spinal Cord Injury Working Group is a voluntary, multi-disciplinary team of Haitian and international health care professionals, with a strong interest and focus on enhancing the care of men, women, boys and girls who have sustained a spinal cord injury in Haiti. The Haiti SCI Working Group was formed after the January 2010 earthquake, which highlighted the immediate health care needs of this vulnerable client group.

Wema Children's Centre

Wema, meaning “goodness” in Swahili, is a community-based organization founded in 2008 in Bukembe Village, Bungoma, Western Kenya. Located in an area with among the highest poverty and HIV/AIDS rates in Kenya, native Kenyans Teresa Wati and Stephen Juma formed Wema Children’s Centre to give poor and orphaned children a home and high quality education.
