Lancet CAH: Snakebite in children (3)

25 October, 2023

It is nice to see the issue of snakebite in children and adolescents being discussed in the CHIFA forum. [ https://www.hifa.org/dgroups-rss/lancet-cah-snakebite-children ] While guidelines are an issue, the real challenge lies in the invisibility of the problem. We need more epidemiological studies - community based (there are too many case series from hospitals) to better understand the burden. Without it, we are kind of shooting in the dark.

In my personal opinion, though the focus should be towards prevention. if I had 100 USD, I would put 90 USD towards preventing snakebites. Perhaps a toolkit on preventing snakebite - developed contextually, is required.
