28 July is World Hepatitis Day: it is time for action (2)

24 July, 2024

Dear colleagues,

World Hepatitis B day is a day to be celebrated. Within our organization, we are planning a series of events such as counseling and testing, sensitization, etc.

These events have been organized by Chia Benard Ful, a medical laboratory technician working with Catholic health services in Cameroon and also CEO of Boyo Association for Rural Development (BARUDEV), an NGO that promotes health, empower women, fights against gender based violence (GBV),etc.

We intend to fight against HBV, work to improve quality of care and life of people living with the virus, advocate for the rights of people living with HBV. Prevention, diagnosis and treatment for HBV, health education.

Include HBV in the prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT) programs.

HBV affects more women more than men,so we empower women to take the challenge and fight against the virus.

We also target consumers of alcohol, blood donors, follow up children who are born to positive mothers to see that they are vaccinated.

Combatting HBV is part of our universal health coverage (UHC) program .

We also build capacities of medical staff, community health workers, etc to see that the virus is eliminated.

Medical staff are readily available for testing.Other resources needed are materials for testing and sample collection materials. We need more knowledge and skills exchange in the diagnosis and treatment of HBV in our medical centers.

Increase partnership for a treatment center and a research center.
