HIFA Projects (23) WHO Bulletin: Predatory journals: what can we do to protect their prey? (3)

21 January, 2025

Dear Joseph,

Thank you for your latest message [ https://www.hifa.org/dgroups-rss/who-bulletin-predatory-journals-what-ca... ]

HIFA and APAME (Asia-Pacific Association of Medical Editors) discussed last year about the possibility of running a HIFA Project on Predatory Journals, but we had a short timeline and were unable to identify the modest sponsorship required.

Predatory journals remains a possible topic for a HIFA Project in 2025. A related phenomenon is 'research paper mills', defined by Wikipedia as 'business that publishes poor or fake journal papers that seem to resemble genuine research, as well as sells authorship'.

Best wishes, Neil
