World Health Assembly, 18–23 May 2026 (15) Introduction and reflections from the World Health Assembly

27 May, 2026

Dear HIFA members,

Greetings from Geneva. My name is Grusha Victor and I am currently working as an Intern with UNOPS [*see note below] in Geneva, supporting work related to disaster displacement, climate change, and policy coordination through the Platform on Disaster Displacement.

My background combines field experience, policy research, and international cooperation. Previously, I worked with tribal women’s groups in India through the SBI Youth for India Fellowship on biodiversity-linked livelihoods and community resilience, and later contributed to research on Indigenous Peoples’ rights and climate policy implementation.

I recently attended several sessions during the World Health Assembly in Geneva, including discussions at the intersection of climate and health. One area I felt deserves greater attention is the relationship between disaster displacement and health outcomes, particularly the challenges displaced populations face in accessing healthcare services and the limited policy and institutional frameworks addressing these issues at national and regional levels.

As climate-related disasters intensify globally, I believe there is increasing need for stronger interdisciplinary dialogue connecting disaster displacement, public health, climate adaptation, and social protection.

I would be very interested to connect with others working on these themes, especially at the intersection of climate, displacement, resilience, and health policy.

Thank you, and I look forward to learning from the discussions on HIFA.

Best regards,

Grusha Victor

[*Note from HIFA moderator (NPW): Many thanks Grusha. I was not previously familiar with UNOPS, which stands for UN Office for Project Services: 'UNOPS provides infrastructure, procurement and project management services for a sustainable world. We envision a world where all people have access to human rights, peace and sustainable development, supported by sustainable, resilient and inclusive infrastructure and effective and transparent use of public resources in procurement and project management.' https://www.unops.org/about/our-story/mission-vision-values ]
