WHO: Dialogue on positioning self-care to advance health equity and resilience

7 November, 2025

Dear HIFA colleagues,

Previous discussions on HIFA have emphasised the importance of evidence-informed self-care, particularly in LMICs where health professionals may be unavailable. AI has the potential to empower self-care for those with an internet connection.

I was interested to see this invitation on the mncah@who.int discussion forum. Unusually there isn't a link for registraation but if you are interested there are two email addresses for further information. I am not sure if this is 'in-person only' and/or online.

You are cordially invited to participate.

Self-care refers to the ability of individuals, families and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and cope with illness, with or without the support of a health or care worker. Countries have been at the forefront of realizing the potential of self-care as a strategy to expand access to essential services by supporting people’s autonomy and agency. At a time when growing numbers of people face uncertainty, financial hardship, and humanitarian crises, evidence-based self-care solutions provide practical, cost-effective, and equitable approaches that strengthen both health systems and communities.

We are convening this event to raise awareness and understanding of the valuable role self-care plays in advancing health and well-being, including for sexual and reproductive health and rights.

We will be sharing further information in due course.

RSVP can already by sent to the following email: selfcare@who.int and /or Ms. Fiona Carr carrf@who.int

We look forward to welcoming you at this event.
