Safe Care for Noncommunicable Diseases: Watch the Grand Rounds Replay
In recognition of World Patient Safety Day 2026, we join the global healthcare community in recognizing this year's theme, "Safe Care for Every Patient with a Noncommunicable Disease."
Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) affect billions of people worldwide and require care that is safe, coordinated, and person-centered across every stage of the healthcare journey. Advancing safer care for people living with chronic conditions requires collaboration among healthcare leaders, clinicians, patients, families, and policymakers around the world.
As part of this year's observance, Joint Commission International hosted our latest Patient Safety Pathways™ Grand Rounds, Safe Care for Noncommunicable Diseases: Safe Care for Life, featuring expert perspectives on the patient safety challenges and opportunities that exist across the continuum of care.

COMMENT (NPW): I have reviewed this. One of the questions asked to the participants was: Who is the most underutilised resource for patient safety?
Overwhelmingly they said "patients and families"
One panellist says to his patients "I see you for 30 mins twice a year. The rest of the 8-9000 hours a year is *you* managing your health"
But I would add that more needs to be done to empower patients to take responsibility for their health. This can include action plans, tools, what and how to monitor... And this requires a change in approach among health workers.
Engaging patients in their own personal health record could substantially increase their sense of responsibility.
