Hello Everyone,
One thing I really hope for, is that GBS screening will become widely available in LMIC settings, and immediate treatment/management options will also be available. Many women have still births or deliver babies with early onset neonatal sepsis, many usually ending up as early neonatal deaths. We do not always know the aetiology of these infections, as bacterial culture tools are not usually available (unfortunately I do not have figures). I have managed neonates with EONS – we do not always have a diagnosis; we can only make presumptive diagnoses.
I look forward to a time when we have these screening/diagnostic and treatment tools in LMICs. Still births/premature birth/ neonatal deaths are very traumatic experiences psychologically to families.
Thank you
Claire
