*Spotlight: Cataract (27) Q4. How does simulation-based training work? (3)

12 October, 2026

Since we started training at HelpMeSee, more than five thousand people have been trained, and interestingly, more than 60% are women - great news, right?

I have personally experienced our training methodology. With the guidance of one of our instructors and by analyzing the performance data, I was able to understand why some of my own surgical results were not as consistent as desired, but more importantly, by observing how this training has changed the trajectory of more junior doctors, increasing their confidence and performance in the transition to live surgery.

In the next 3 years, we expect to train a similar number of people, primarily in LMICs, and, hopefully, advocate for Simulation-Based Training to be integrated or even made mandatory in more countries to ensure better care and patient safety. Currently, to the best of my knowledge, only the UK and Denmark have made it mandatory before you can even enter the operating theatre.
