Review article on marketing and child nutrition

28 November, 2023

Dear CHIFA members,

I am sharing the review article "Marketing and child nutrition", published in Jornal de Pediatria, the largest pediatrics journal in Brazil and one of the largest in Latin America. I wrote the article with Professor Giselia

Alves, one of the newspaper's editors.

The article was organized into three topics: 1. Child nutrition: marketing, conflicts of interest and impact on

medical education; 2. Regulation of the marketing of industrialized baby food in the world and in Brazil; 3. What marketing does not tell you: potential negative impacts of using processed foods early in life. I have

been participating in WHO informal working group established at the end of 2022, PHASFI (Professionals in Healthcare Against Sponsorship from Formula Industry), organizing the repository.

This review article was written based on the readings I carried out while building the repository. In Brazil, we observe that there is minimal or no space to discuss these issues during pediatrics formation and during specialty congresses, and this may occur in other countries around the world. Please, feel comfortable to share the article so that it can, maybe, help to create a more critical view of industrialized baby food, the influence of bad marketing practices and their potential harm to children's health.

Best regards.
