Dear Thomas and all,
You write 'This looks like just another "talk the talk" initiative to me'
I'm not sure what a "talk the talk" initiative looks like, but my impression is that this could be the most important initiative in HIFA's history.
HIFA has been making the case for a similar initiative for almost 20 years. WHO is best positioned to lead such an initiative and I note that WHO is included among the authors.
The Quality Health Information for All Commission will be led by 'The Council for Quality Health Communication, The O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, and Nature Medicine [in collaboration with] other international health communication organizations, including the European Union-based Global Listening Project, the US Council for International Business Foundation, the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development and the Health Equity Community Collaborative, plus partners in the technology and media sectors, to develop and support the commission’s research and development agenda'.
This is a formidable coalition. Whereas we have previously been advocating for health information for all with a secretariat of 1.2 persons, this development represents not only a validation of our efforts but also, potentially, a hundred-fold increase in our collective capacity.
HIFA is uniquely placed to provide support.
Best wishes, Neil
