Thank you Dr Uzodinma Adirieje for this insightful article. Community health workers (CHWs) are critical frontline health ambassadors in sub-Saharan Africa, bridging the gap between marginalized communities and formal health systems. As human factor professionals they improve health awareness by providing culturally appropriate education on maternal child health, sanitation, disease prevention, patient safety and nutrition.

Transitioning some CHWs from informal, unpaid volunteers to formally integrated, compensated members of national health systems ensures program sustainability. They need targeted training and continuous capacity-building in public health messaging and health information management to equips them combat misinformation and promote healthy behaviors in communities during watch mode and health crises like disease outbreaks.
