A new series of multi-journal editorials on the health effects of nuclear war has just been launched. This idea has a past, with editorials published on both climate change and nuclear risk.
We are inviting editors of health journals on any subject to participate in this new project. HIFA members who edit a health journal, or who have contacts to an editor, please write to Chris Zielinski at czielinski@ippnw.org for a copy of the editorial and publishing information. It costs nothing to participate, and participating journals are publicly recognized.
The editorial is the initiative of the Nobel-Prizewinning International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, and is backed by the World Association of Medical Editors. The Editors-in-Chief of major medical journals worldwide are among the co-authors, along with leading experts in the field. Numerous journals have already undertaken to publish the editorial.
With the first review conference of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons taking place in New York in early December, and new reports on nuclear war commissioned by both the UN and WHO, these developments need to be widely known in the health community.
Since this project began in 2021, there have been seven multi-journal editorials, each published in from 150 to 250 journals worldwide. Altogether, over 1,000 journals have published these editorials so far. Multi-journal editorials have been remarkably successful in raising public awareness and instigating practical action – such reviving WHO’s mandate to report on nuclear war.
Please help us to get as many journals to publish these editorials as possible.
