Hello HIFA,

Pedro Delgado officially stepped into the role of ISQua Chief Executive on September 1, and his first message to the community is a genuinely warm one, leading with curiosity above all else. He's spending his early months listening: to staff, board, fellows, partners, and patients, with real care for voices from parts of the world too often underrepresented in global quality conversations. His hope for ISQua's future is a true global learning system, people connected not just by shared interest, but by the problems they're working to solve together. And he's clearly looking forward to bringing that spirit to life in person, with 1,500+ members gathering in Dublin this month for ISQua's International Conference.

The ISQua team visited The Convention Centre Dublin as preparations ramp up for our 42nd International Conference! As part of our commitment to sustainability, we're proud to partner with the Convention Centre Dublin and Grown Forest to plant 50 native Irish trees, supporting local biodiversity and a greener future. Each tree can sequester up to 22kg of CO₂ per year, a lasting impact that extends well beyond the conference itself. We look forward to welcoming you to Dublin!

Community News
No News Is Not Good News: Rethinking Safety in NCD Care Across Africa. For people living with noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), patient safety extends far beyond hospitals and clinics. Join the ISQua Africa Community of Practice (AfCOP) for a special World Patient Safety Day 2026 webinar as we follow the journey of Amina, a 42-year-old woman whose high blood pressure is discovered during a community screening. Through her story, our panellists will explore the gaps between screening and safe care, from access, diagnosis and medication safety to communication, referral and follow-up — and ask: when a patient disappears from care, is no news really good news? Join this interactive conversation to explore how we can build safer, more connected NCD care across Africa.

Mark World Patient Safety Day on 17 September by joining our webinar, Safe Care for Children with Medical Complexity. Children with complex medical needs often navigate multiple professionals, services and care settings, making effective communication, coordination and partnership with families critical to safe care. Drs Ulfat Shaikh, Susan Guralnick and Helen Leonard will bring perspectives from the US and UK to explore the patient safety challenges these children and their families face and share approaches to creating safer, better coordinated and more person- and family-centred care.
