A new Approach to Traditional Medicine Practice (3)

27 April, 2022

Thank you Dr. Ana for the response and also for the team of HIFA who have given this platform to talk and share informations.

Traditional Medicine is "the total combinations of knowledge and practices, whether explicable or not used in diagnosing, preventing of eliminating physical, mental or social diseases and which may rely exclusively on past experience and observation handed down from generation to generation, verbally or in writing" (Promoting the role of Traditional Medicine in health systems: The Strategy for the African Region, document, AFR/RC50/9, World Health Organization, Regional Office for Africa, 2001)

Traditional Medicine has been since the creation, and recognition given as human increasing in knowledge and education.

In Nigeria, the responsibility of regulation and control saddled with Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, nothing was achieved under this Council for years. Later their were other agencies like NAFDAC, NNMDA and others but nothing successful to show, in terms of developing literate and illiterate Practitioners and their products.

If traditional medicine is not working, will people still patronize it.

Nigeria is just a country on its own... that wanted to be like developed nations overnight.

Traditional Medicine in other land have gained recognition, support and funding, while responsible nation rakes huge amount of money from it, the Republic of China, Kenya, Ghana, even our neighboring Benin republic. We have seen nations with Traditional Medicine University.

Traditional Medicine we do is for our people. Our medicine for our people.

I call on interested individuals, groups and organizations to come contribute to the development of this project. We won't make to be world class overnight, No.

We have waited too long, we have drafted too long policies, bill, laws, too many agencies, department, to work on traditional medicine, what did they bring forth? Nothing.

Traditional Medicine Policy for Nigeria/2007 under the regime of President Olusegun Obasanjo signed by Prof. Eyitayo Lambo provided for financing, supervising, training, production and setting up of committee from local, state government and federal level. What has happened to the policy since 2007.

Ladies and gentlemen, I call on interested individuals and groups once again to support this ongoing project, because we have a lot to documents for the good of humanity.

Our trainees are not joining the labour market rather to create jobs and employ more hands. They are enterpreneurs, even when not producing Traditional Medicine, they can lay their hand on other things like;- Honey, Shea butter, coconut oil, charcoal, pap, mushrooms etc

We are currently working with the inaugurated board of Traditional Medicine and other concerned ministries. We shall not relent till we achieve.

Traditional Medicine is our heritage, we shall make it more beautiful, glorious and successful than as inherited.

Thank you.
