Mental health support for earthquake survivors

14 February, 2023

Dear leaders of HIFA,

It is an appeal to you all to think about those who were yesterday able-bodied people and today She/he is fighting to survive losing some part of their bodies or waiting might have to amputate to keep him/her life alive. In this environment how to coop this situation when an affected person going to enter a totally new environment that he/s does not

know at all, how life will be next, to accept such an unknown environment, in this stage affected person needs strong mental support to accommodate and to accept the new life.

After any disaster, another silent disaster follows what is ignored mainly by all due to traumatized environment. The Whole of Turkey and part of Syria are now in trauma and the rescue team there is mainly for emergency services to rescue and give emergency medical treatment and rescue the missing person.

There needs another mission to provide mental support to the survivors. My experience says by this time permanent damage has happened to mental health.

My request and appeal to you all those who have died from this earthquake we all are shocked and pray for them and those who are severely injured so that due to insufficient treatment and care none become disabled and mentally displace.

2, Need for counselling and create an enabling environment so that sufferers can get back the mental strength to stand back again to survive and to lead life.

3. Till rescue is in operation but no statistics regarding severe injured and how many of them already became impaired and how many of them lost mental strength a group should be there to judge this and accordingly take the safety measures to reduce human vulnerability from this natural disaster.

Wish leaders will think about this issue and will try to take a step to save the life from disabilities and future mental imbalance environment from human society.
