Joseph Ana (17) Practical Approach to Care Kit (PACK)

11 April, 2026

It is sad indeed to hear of Dr. Ana's sudden passing.

Although he contributed greatly to many discussions, I believe his greatest legacy is the introduction of the South Africa developed PACK Programme, in his home country, Nigeria. It is a very comprehensive document which can orient primary health care practitioners towards providing quality care.

Developed in South Africa, it has been rolled out in other parts of the world.

PACK can be accessed here:

My question to the general HIFA community is this: who is using the PACK Programme, and has it made a difference in urban/rural practices?

If it is a good tool, how many practitioners can access it?

How might HIFA be an engine that helps to disseminate PACK.

I think the legacy of Dr. Ana is best served by continuing his seminal primary care initiatives.

Primary health care is the most critical issue for the majority of the world's inhabitants.

How can HIFA/CHIFA be of help to health providers?

We need stories from the front lines.

Please consider sharing those real life situations.
