On 18 June, the United Nations will observe the International Day for Countering Hate Speech.

To mark this occasion, UNESCO is pleased to invite you to a webinar entitled "Countering Hate Speech in the Digital Age: Promoting Information Integrity and Resilient Societies." The event will bring together experts to discuss current challenges and responses to hate speech in digital environments, including the role of Media and Information Literacy in fostering inclusive and resilient societies, as reflected in our New Issue Brief on MIL and Hate Speech.

COMMENT (NPW): This topic is relevant to HIFA in at least three respects:

1. Hate speech against people living with a disability

2. Hate speech against people with a mental health condition

3. (More specific but more extreme) Killing of children with albinism for their supposed magical healing properties

All of the above are related to ignorance and lack of understanding, which undermine our capacity to be compassionate.
