The indirect effect of COVID-19

6 January, 2021

Dear All

The WHO shows the top 10 causes of death in the world compared to 2019 and 2020.

https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/the-top-10-causes-of-de...

The death of COVID-19 has been reflected in lower respiratory infections.

However, death caused COVID-19 was 1.8 million in 2020.

If it is an independent cause of death, it is the same number of that of No.6 lung cancer.

So, the direct effect is serious.

But I'm worried about the jump-up deaths of neonatal conditions and diarrhoeal diseases in 2020,

Are these higher death numbers caused by the indirect effect of COVID-19?

If so, what is the mechanism of them?

Kind regards,

Hajime
