Ending nuclear weapons, before they end us (2)

20 May, 2025

Thanks for announcing our latest multi-journal editorial, Neil. This one, "Ending nuclear weapons, before the end us", is being published in 134 journals (the list of publishing journals is here https://www.bmj.com/content/full-list-authors-and-signatories-nuclear-ri... - although we expect to be adding to it as we go along).

It is often forgotten that the health consequences of nuclear bombs are not only the obvious ones that occur when a nuclear weapon is actually exploded, but there are also significant healthy consequences arising in the development, storage, testing and upgrading of weapons.

The editorial calls on WHO to renew its mandate to report on nuclear weapons and health - its previous mandate lapsed in 2020 - and it hasn't produced a report on the subject since 1987. An OPen Access version is freely available at the BMJ: https://www.bmj.com/content/389/bmj.r881

Chris
