Empowering community engagement and involvement in global health research, IDS short course, 9-13 September 2024

13 July, 2024

Dear colleagues

We are writing to invite you to join us on our empowering community engagement and involvement in global health research <https://bit.ly/4a2jFpZ> specialist short course from 9th to 13th September 2024 at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Brighton, UK.

This short course offers an opportunity for participants to work through the thorny questions and challenges that arise when undertaking Community Engagement and Involvement (CEI) in practice.

Find out more on the course webpage <https://bit.ly/4a2jFpZ>.

Building on a prior UK National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) commissioned learning programme on CEI and many years of experience working within research collaborations around the world, our in-person course seeks to enable peer-to-peer learning on issues such as navigating the dilemmas of ethical engagement in real time, making change visible through adaptive learning processes, and a deep dive into the challenges of integrating CEI within applied health research. As global health research funders increasingly demand projects and proposals that incorporate public and/or community engagement elements, this course is designed to give space to ask hard questions and reckon with the intended (and unintended) consequences of shifting power in research processes.

Facilitators <https://bit.ly/4a2jFpZ> include Erica Nelson (IDS) and Rene Loewenson (Training and Research Support Centre - TARSC).

The course will run from 9 September until 13 September and the deadline for application is 12 August 2024.

Course fee: starting from £1,225 per person, with discounts available for group bookings and small nonprofits.
