CABI is now accepting submissions for One Health resources

31 March, 2022

CABI One Health [https://www.cabi.org/products-and-services/one-health-resources-cabi/one... ], a new open access journal, due to be launched later this year as part of a new set of transdisciplinary One Health resources [ https://www.cabi.org/products-and-services/one-health-resources-cabi/ ], is now open for submissions.

The journal is part of a growing, and integrated information resource that includes One Health Cases [ https://www.cabi.org/products-and-services/one-health-resources-cabi/one... ] - which is also acceptinng submissions - and the forthcoming One Health Knowledge Bank.

The journal provides integrated transdisciplinary coverage of One Health problems and challenges, promoting the value of the social, political, and anthropological sciences. It will publish original research articles, case reports, short communications and commentaries, policy forums, ethical debates, research methods, review articles and thematic series on priority One Health challenges.

Article Processing Charges (APCs) in 2022 are being waived for the journal, meaning that papers can be published open access and free of charge.

”We hope this will encourage researchers to submit papers that examine the interconnections between humans, animals, plants, ecosystems, and their shared environment in a transdisciplinary way” said Professor Jakob Zinsstag, the Editor-in-Chief of CABI’s One Health resources.

“CABI One Health provides an exciting outlet for transdisciplinary One Health research. For me, a transdisciplinary approach that sits above the academic disciplines but which also engages with local and indigenous knowledge is vital.

“To promote this, we ask authors to include a One Health Impact statement that addresses how their research explores the added value of a One Health approach and specifically how they involved different disciplines and stakeholders.”

Complementing the journal is One Health Cases. It will provide a growing database of peer-reviewed educational, practical cases, and will be an invaluable resource for students, teachers, academics, public stakeholders, and industry practitioners. The database will be sold on a subscription model, but authors can elect to make their cases open access by paying an APC.

“One Health is ultimately about adding value and making a positive difference to human, animal, plant and environmental health. This collection of educational cases provides real-life examples of One Health in action to show how it is operationalised. We aim to share the experience of One Health experts and the lessons learned from their programmes. Submissions are now open, so if you are interested I encourage you to get in contact with us via the website to discuss your ideas and lend your expertise to the next generation of One Health advocates” said Lisa Crump, Editor of One Health Cases.

Meanwhile, the One Health Knowledge Bank will follow later this year, and will be a hub of relevant knowledge, information and data, including journal articles, cases, book chapters, curated species datasheets, and an extensive collection of hard-to-find grey literature in a single searchable database.

In December, CABI issued an open call for editorial board members for the One Health resources. The full list can be seen here.

Jakob Zinsstag said: “We’ve been joined in this endeavour by a global editorial and advisory board that covers human, animal, plant and environmental health, along with experts who bring a deeper understanding of their social, cultural and political dimensions. We are delighted to be part of a team of people who, while being leaders in their disciplines, are also open to engage in a truly inter- and transdisciplinary dialogue. Just as importantly, we are working towards a gender balanced board that represents all six continents. So, if you would like to get involved, please contact us”.
