Dear Colleague,
I’m excited to share more about AfroPHC-MOOVE, a new initiative to test and shape AI tools so they truly support primary health care (PHC) clinicians across Africa. This isn’t just another tech pilot—we’re putting your expertise at the center to evaluate whether AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Meditron, and Qwen give safe, accurate, and contextually appropriate advice in real-world African settings.
Most AI is trained on data from high-income countries and tested using exam-style questions that don’t reflect our realities. The result? Tools that may sound smart but fail when we are faced with limited resources, multi-morbidity, or local guidelines.
Through AfroPHC-MOOVE, you’ll:
· Submit or review realistic clinical scenarios from your practice
· Compare anonymized AI responses side-by-side
· Rate them on accuracy, safety, reasoning, and relevance
No technical background needed—just African PHC experience and commitment!
Your contributions will help identify which models work best—and could lead to a custom AfroPHC ChatBot, freely available to African clinicians. You’ll also earn certification in AI evaluation and be recognized on a global leaderboard.
We will test the AI chatbots from 15th October to 15th December. During that period we will host monthly half-day virtual sessions not only to guide the evaluation process but to build your confidence and skills in using AI safely and effectively. These are hands-on spaces to learn, reflect, and grow together as pioneers shaping AI for African PHC.

We especially need voices from all five African regions—Southern, Eastern, Western, Northern, Central—and from doctors, nurses, and clinical officers working in PHC.
By joining AfroPHC-MOOVE, you’re not just testing AI—you’re helping build equitable, trustworthy tools that serve our patients and teams. Let’s ensure AI learns from Africa, not just speaks to it.
