Re: https://www.hifa.org/dgroups-rss/survey-how-have-international-funding-c...
Dear Catherine and HIFA colleagues,
Many thanks for your survey inviting people to describe how international funding cuts have affected their work. I have completed the survey and would like to take this opportunity to share our situation with HIFA members.
We are dependent on donations and payments for services (eg HIFA Projects), mainly from NGOs, academic institutions and personal donors. We are increasingly finding that NGOs and academic institutions are less able to afford financial contributions, while our level of personal donations remains strong. The withdrawal of the US Administration from WHO has also had an impact.
HIFA has previously had a total annual income of more than £40,000 ($53k) but our total income this past year (2025-6) was £24,000 ($32k) - a 40% decrease.
To address this problem, in 2026 we introduced the concept of HIFA Spotlights, which are much more affordable than fullscale HIFA Projects. This has already attracted modest additional income from three sponsors (Grop B Strep International, HelpMeSee and WHO @£500 each) and we look forward to host more of these in 2027. www.hifa.org/spotlights
We have also introduced a HIFA Partnerships programme, whereby organisations that currently provide a financial contribution are recognised on our home page and receive other benefits. We currently have 28 partners and if we can increase this number in 2026-7 it would greatly help our financial sustainablity. www.hifa.org/partners
Our work in 2027 has exciting potential, particularly in view of our developing collaboration with WHO, but we cannot deliver without financial support.
We would like to ask ALL HIFA members and organisations to consider a financial contribution for HIFA for 2026-7. This can be an unrestricted donation or it can be allocated to a new HIFA Spotlight or other activity.

We are also open to your suggestions on other sources of income. If you think you can help or advise, please contact: neil@hifa.org
With many thanks,
Neil
