Further to my introduction last week: a HIFA member in the Dominican Republic kindly sent me the official health sources for his country and for Haiti, including vaccination schedules, emergency numbers, and the fact that liquid ibuprofen there is sold at twice the strength usual in Europe.
I added all of it to PediBot the same day. Many of the families his clinic serves are Haitian immigrants, and thanks to him they can now get answers that match the medicines on their shelves and the numbers they can actually call. It's a small thing that one person can do and that helps a lot of families, and I would warmly welcome similar information from others on HIFA, for any country.
Meanwhile I would like to ask a question to HIFA members in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo, The Gambia, Guinea, Comoros, Liberia and South Sudan. The UK government's travel health advice does not list a general emergency medical number for these countries. I'd like to ask members who work there what families actually do when they, or a child, become seriously ill at night, or are involved in a serious car accident: who do they call, where do they go? Whatever you share, I'll add it to PediBot, so the next family who asks gets a real answer.
