Delivering patient education at scale

11 August, 2026

Dear HIFA colleagues,

I've spent 20 years building patient education infrastructure in South Africa, and one pattern keeps showing up: healthcare systems invest heavily in treatment and diagnosis, but far less in ensuring patients understand what they've been told. We've seen this gap consistently across pharmacy chains, private hospital groups, and clinics.

I'd be glad to share what we've learned about closing that gap at scale, and I'm curious how others on this forum are approaching the same problem in different health systems. What's worked, what hasn't, and where do people see the biggest remaining gaps between health information existing and patient understanding?

Kind regards,

Craig
