Opioid drugs (58) Q8 Do healthcare professionals have adequate knowledge (5) Educational resources for healthcare professionals

5 May, 2026

Dear Colleagues,

This week Neil raised the question about What interventions are available in your country when addressing opioid use disorders?

That raises the question of whether healthcare professionals receive the necessary training to address this issue.

Given that many professionals, especially in low- and middle-income countries, may lack easy access to training in the management of Substance Use Disorders, particularly Opioid Use Disorders, I want to share some free educational resources from the Addiction Training Program for Health Professionals (ATHP) of the Frank Foundation/NextGenU with the HIFA audience:

- Substance Use and Public Health

https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=411

- Substance Use Disorders in Primary Care

https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=390

- Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment

https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=406

- Substance Use Disorders Among Forced Migrant Populations in

Humanitarian Settings https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=449

- Buprenorphine Training: Treating Opioid Use Disorder

https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=450

- Naloxone Training: Treating an Opioid Overdose.

https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=414

I am sure that Dr. Kevin Sevarino, from the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP), can share even more resources.

I hope they can be useful to some of you.

Kind regards,

Eduardo
