Coronavirus (1330) US Surgeon General report on misinformation and Rockefeller Funding to tackle it

22 July, 2021

Vivek Murthy, Surgeon General of the United States of America, has just issued a report on health misinformation (

http://www.surgeongeneral.gov/healthmisinformation), with the words: "I am urging all Americans to help slow the spread of health misinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Health misinformation is a serious threat to public health. It can cause confusion, sow mistrust, harm people’s health, and undermine public health efforts. Limiting the spread of health misinformation is a moral and civic imperative that will require a whole-of-society effort."

In immediate response, the Rockefeller Foundation announced a $13.5 million funding commitment towards fighting COVID-19 misinformation and disinformation. Funding will support a range of interventions, tools, and research to build trust in COVID-19 vaccination efforts and counter inaccurate information.
