Spring 2018

Bangladesh Newsletter 29

Dear Friends,

Our commitment to this program began in 2000; a whole 18 years ago! Since then, we have supported 174 expatriate missions, 75,000 consultations, 4,500 specially designed braces and other apparatus, 1,700 operations, the construction and fitting-out of both a central clinic and 3 smaller centers, a team of 20 Bengali employees (physiotherapists, brace manufacturers, health-workers, surgeons, doctors and administrators) working all year-round on the project, and a team of experienced volunteers who return every year for on-going training.

The keywords for the program are quality health-care, ethics, solidarity and empowerment, but also long-term commitment. Our commitment during these 18 years has helped create a deep understanding of the country̢۪s culture, which has in in turn established confidence between our organizations and the personnel who work with them. Long-term follow-up of our young patients has also provided valuable input on the outcome of their treatment. This is vital in ensuring that we can reduce errors and improve choices. Some of the stories of our many patients are told in this newsletter...
